Fight:
Grant Marshall (6'1", 200#) vs Brad Staubitz (6'1", 210#)
Staubitz took a run at Marshall and blasted him against the boards (and got a well deserved two for interference for it). Marshall took exception as they both got up after the hit and grabbed Staubitz by the shoulder pads, then knocking off his helmet. Marshall landed a couple harmless rights as Staubitz got his feet back under him. Staubitz and Marshall then grappled for a few seconds as Staubitz tried to get Marshall's helmet off. Staubitz gave up on that tactic and threw a monster right that stood Marshall straight up and cracked his visor. Before Staubitz could threw another bomb at the stunned Marshall the linesmen jumped in. Staubitz easily the winner.
Game notes:
Pavelski had a diving break up while down 5v3, and had a huge keep in on a waist high clearing attempt in the last 90 seconds of the game.
Iggulden and Stevenson both hit posts so solidly that the pucks nearly made it back to them. Lowell hit 3 posts on the night.
Murray's goal was the kind you see in video games, taking a straight draw from Pavelski and blasting a high one-timer into the upper corner of the net before the goaltender could even react.
At one point there were three broken sticks on the ice, all belonging to Devils players. The Sharks could not capitalize.
Darche had several players shadowing him all night.
In the 3rd period Petr Vrana went low on Murray as Murray touched up a puck for icing. Murray took exception, dropped his goves, and connected with four or five rights before the linesmen jumped in. While behing held by the linesman David Clarkson threw a gloved punch at Murray, who broke loose of the linesman and hit Clarkson with two or three good shots before the linesmen regained control. Murray got a double minor for roughing, Vrana and Clarkson each got minors for roughing. It's the most punches I've ever seen anyone land and not get a fighting major.
Devils netminder Frank Doyle made more than half a dozen huge saves. He has one of the fastest gloves I've seen.
Pavelski, Spang, Rome, Iggulden, Biron, Valette, Staubitz, and Macho all had hits. Plihal had two, Kurtz had three, Murray had four. Both Evans and Armstrong tied the team high at 6.
Spang and Evans both had blocked shots, Murray had 2.
Greiss had one big save. He gave up some bad rebounds, and all the goals given up were high shots from the point.
