Peoria's Sejna named Player of the Week

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (CP) - Peoria winger Peter Sejna is the AHL player of the week after helping the Rivermen open the season with a 3-0 record.

Sejna recorded four goals and added three assists as the Rivermen began their inaugural AHL season.

Sejna assisted on Peoria's first-ever AHL goal, then scored two of his own as the Rivermen posted a 5-4 win at Iowa on Thursday night. He came back with two more goals and another assist in a 4-3 win over Manitoba on Friday before closing out the week with another assist in Saturday's 2-1 victory over the Moose.

Sejna signed as a free agent with the St. Louis Blues after winning the Hobey Baker Award as the outstanding player in U.S. collegiate hockey in 2003 while playing at Colorado College.

WINNIPEG (CP) - Mike Glumac scored twice and Curtis Sanford made 16 saves as the Peoria Rivermen blanked the Manitoba Moose 4-0 in American Hockey League action Friday.

Jon DiSalvatore and Brendan Brooks also scored for Peoria.

Robert McVicar made 28 saves for the Moose.

Bacashihua takes player of week honours

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (CP) - Peoria Rivermen goaltender Jason Bacashihua was named the American Hockey League player of the week Monday.

The 23-year-old American recorded two shutouts in three victories last week. He had a 0.33 goals-against average, a .985 save percentage and allowed just one goal on 68 shots.

Bacashihua has a perfect 5-0 record with a 1.80 goals-against average and a .932 save percentage this season. He was drafted by the Dallas Stars with the 26th overall pick of the 2001 NHL Entry Draft.

Aces' Beckford-Tseu Named Reebok Hockey ECHL Goaltender Of The Week

PRINCETON, N.J. - Chris Beckford-Tseu of the Alaska Aces is the Reebok Hockey ECHL Goaltender of the Week for November 14-20. Beckford-Tseu becomes the first goaltender in 2005-06 to win the award a second time, having captured the honor for October 24-30.

Under contract to the St. Louis Blues of the National Hockey League, the 6-foot-3 and 205-pound Beckford-Tseu went 2-0-0 and stopped 47 of 49 shots to post a goals-against average of 1.00 and a save percentage of .959.

Beckford-Tseu made 27 saves on November 16 in a 2-1 win over Las Vegas, which entered the game having won six of their last eight games. He helped Alaska complete its three-game sweep of Las Vegas on November 19 when he made 20 saves in a 3-1 win.

The 21-year-old is a perfect 5-0-0 at home and tied for the league lead with a 1.49 goals-against average and is second with a .945 save percentage. He was named the ECHL Saver of the Month for October after going 3-0-0 record with a shutout, a 1.33 goals-against average and a .949 save percentage.

Selected in the fifth round (159th overall) by the St. Louis Blues in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft, Beckford-Tseu spent his rookie season in 2004-05 with Peoria of the ECHL where he was 11-12-3 with a 2.71 goals-against average and .908 save percentage in 29 games. He also appeared in a game with Worcester of the American Hockey League and made seven saves in 29 minutes. The Toronto, Ontario native spent three years with Guelph, Oshawa and Kingston of the Ontario Hockey League where he had a record of 36-53-6 in 115 games.

Pohl scores winner for Marlies

CLEVELAND (CP) - John Pohl scored the game-winning goal to help the Toronto Marlies beat the Cleveland Barons 4-2 on Tuesday.

Jeremy Williams, Ian McNeil and Tyler Beechey also scored for the Marlies, who won their third in a row.

Mike Iggulden and Josh Hennessy had goals for the Barons.

After a scoreless first period, the two teams combined for five second-period goals. Iggulden started the barrage with his ninth goal of the season for Cleveland and a 1-0 lead. 

Williams, McNeil and Pohl scored for the Marlies for a 3-2 lead after forty minutes of play. 


The Barons closed out the period with a goal from Hennessy.

Beechey scored his first goal of the season at the 4:28 mark to close out the night's scoring.

Toronto goaltender Jean-Francois Racine made 32 saves, while Barons goaltender Dimitri Patzold stopped 27 shots.
