Rivermen Trip October7-9

From: icecat23   icecat23 is a registered live IceCat

I  just came home from the Rivermen Home Opener and I would like to tell all Ice cats fans that the team misses all of us from Worcester. Talked to Erkki, Konstantin, Jason Bacashihua, Brendan Brooks, Aaron Mackenzie, Ryan Ramsay, and Mke Stuart. They all hope we get a team next year and they hope all is well here in Worcester. Also the fans were very nice , but we were not really impressed with the staff of Peoria Rivermen. If anyone would like to know any more information ask away and I would be happy to answer!!!!!

They've gotten off to a great start.....good for them! How is the city of Peoria and the arena? Does it appear that they will have a lot of support?

I do not want to be rude about the city of Peoria, but there is nothing in Peoria. Peoria looked to me like it was full of old factories and stuff....The Rivermen is the only attraction there....The arena is very nice. A lot nicer than the Dcu Center.......and a lot cheaper!!!!!

Did you leave downtown Peoria?? If you would have taken a drive around, you would have found plenty of stuff... 15 minutes away from downtown, there are 2 malls, one of which is a few years old, one is in the process of being remodeled. It doesn't sounds like you left downtown, and I can see where you would think that if you didn't do much exploring around Peoria and the surrounding towns.

I had hoped to make the trip last year, but cancelled for obvious reasons. From what I gathered about Peoria, it's a lot like Worcester and many of the other AHL cities in New England- an older city that lost it's industrial base and saw it's population move to the outskirts of town and suburbs.

The Carver Areana isn't nice at all. I was very impressed when i saw the Centrum Center. We do need a new arena in Peoria.

We went to the malls and we went to the riverfront and we went to plenty  of cvs'..lol...we were very suprised to see 1 dunkin donuts within like a 10 mile radius though. There is a lot more to do around here ....but downtown peoria, by the arena, wasnt too bad at all..

Heh, you guys are talking like the Centrum (i like this name so much better than the DCU Center) is a dump. I know that there are alot of other arenas that are nicer and newer than the Centrum, but I still think it's a great building, seeing it is one of the older arenas around. But, look at it this way, it is much better than the Dumpin Donuts Center in Providence (sorry, no offense P-Bruins fans)

Anyways, Peoria sounds like an interesting city.....similar to Worcester

It was good that you were able to go to Peoria and had a nice time IC23.

We went there on our first Booster Club trip to St.Louis.  The drive from St.Louis to Peoria was interesting ---- one of the things we noticed in some areas was how far away homes were from one another --- you just couldn't walk to your friend's house because of the distance between homes.  We saw beautiful countryside.   We were also surprised to see how large Walmart was & how inexpensive Girl Scouts cookies were compared to here!  The restrooms we stopped at on the highways were immaculate.

We enjoyed our trip there, especially seeing Tyler Rennette scoring two goals in front of us --- the boys made a poster board sign "Tyler for President" and gave it to him after the game.  He was kind enough to take them to the locker room & give them a tour.  We also had a nice conversation with Bob Gassoff.  Because we saw a Sunday afternoon game, there was a skate with players right after the game.  I remember seeing one of the players hold the hand of a girl who was having some difficulty skating.

We met members of the Booster Club who were very nice.  Everyone we talked to were thrilled that several of us took the time to come to Peoria & treated us like gold  --- unlike the Blues who I think could have cared less that we were in St.Louis (the tickets they "gave" us were so nosebleed, that we could actually see what was going on better through the cameraman's small tv screen  that was right next to us than watching the game live --- we eventually ended up buying tickets closer to the ice so we could watch the game).  It made several of us realize that the Blues are "all business" while the Rivermen still "valued" people.

As far as the Rivermen's arena unless there have been a lot of renovations done since we went there, I think the DCU may be a better arena/setup. The Rivermen team shop was very tiny --- smaller than what Worcester had at the DCU. We did listen to the game from Iowa the other night --- the announcer sounded like he was in a tunnel or box.  Personally, I thought he was very dry --- give me Mike Thornton & his excitement in announcing a game any day!!!!

While I am going to games in another city, it is still very hard to go & watch two other teams play despite the fact the games have been very exciting --- it just isn't the same.  I am still wearing my IceCat jersey  --- I guess my way of still holding on even though they are gone! Thank goodness there are two former IceCats playing on the team who we cheer for.  Some people have come up to us saying they hope we get a team in Worcester next year.

We miss Mike Stuart, Curtis & all the former IceCats & wish them the best in the future.

No i agree 100%, theh DCU center is not a bad arena at all, I am just saying that The peoria civic center is cleaner and the prices for food and beer are cheaper...
