Why Not?

It's a message boards; might as well have a Calder Cup thread. Philly leads 1-0. What's your prediction and/or hope for the outcome?

As long as it wasnt Providence I dont care although I cant really root for the Chicago "Yankees".  Getting Weiss and Bowmeister on loan is a joke.

Go Phantoms

2-0 Philly. The write up sounded like Chicago out played them but it was all in the goaltending.

Sorry man, no idea on the van. And I'm not in favor of the loaning of players either. Imagine being a player in San Antonio and having the parent club say "sorry, it's all about him"   Or worse yet, a season ticket holder and the club saying "thanks for the cash, keep supporting us, but we're throwing in the towel with 15 games left."

Rooting for Philly.. I'm against the I-6 teams..

1) because they always win the cup since they've been in the league

2) if they weren't in the league, we would probably still have our team

Saw them boot out the Bruins and now will see them beat those Wolves! Sweep Sweep

All right!  Im rooting against Phil! It has a couple reasons.. First and foremost..i am a diehard Patriots and Steelers fan.. I grew up loving the University of notre Dame And Jerome "Bus" Bettis. The pats however...are my favorite football team> Secondly...just like the eagles, Phili sucks! They remind me of new york. All they do is bicker and think they are God's gift. Thirdly, my Providence Bruins and Grand Rapids Griffins(Detroit Red Wins Afiiliate) like to hit them hard and i enjoy it... Phil doesnt deserve the cup chicago does. I love the Red sox and the Cubs give chicago a reason to belive. After all..the last major title was when? the 1985 BEARS??? Basketball aint a real sport so Michael Jordan's chicago bulls dont count!

IceCats/P-Bruins Fanatic do you consider the Calder Cup a major championship?

From: stan

The Calder Cup is definitely a major Championship. The AHL is

considered the world's second best professional hockey league.

Is it as impressive as the Stanley Cup?, no but when you

consider how many players have gone on to become NHL

stars after their years in the AHL you realize that the Calder

Cup is a very prestigious Cup.

the Calder cup is a very prestigious championship. Anything with hockey is prestigious. Whether it be our hometown Boston University Terriers Representing the USA 1980 olympic hockey team or Cam Neely(congrats cam) going to the hall of fame it has special meaning. I leave for the United States navy in a month and a half..i enjoyed as much as hockey as i possibly could. The NHL lockout didnt help however...Not being able to see my bruins fight one more match before i  go or seeing Boston University and  now dismissed team player Chris Bourqe( i met Rya at an Icecats portland match up april 9th) win the Beanpot is meaningful. When the Icecats left worcester...i was crushed but nothing goes well... I mean our bruins have not won a cup for 30 plus seasons. With the AHL, the best semi-pro hockey players will eevntaully lead the bruins to glory. Try,  Hannu Toivvenen, martin Sammuellson, Andy Hilbert, and coloton Orr

"The AHL is considered the world's second best professional hockey league."

Ahh... what about the DEL in Germany, Swedish Elite League, The Russian super leagues????

No doubt the AHL is a major championship but to say its the worlds second best pro league is a overstatement.

In the big picture (all of sports) , it's not that presigious a trophy- we'll be lucky to see a 5 second clip on Sports Center.

To hockey fans and hockey areas- yes, it is VERY prestigious. It's the second article in the Toronto Star sports page.
