Peoria Player Update; Ex-Icecats

From: $5Beers
Date: 18-May-05

Not a big surprise here, but this is from the Peoria Journal Star:

"The Blues will introduce three players planned for the 2005-06 Rivermen team next month in Peoria. Sources say former ECHL Rivermen right wing Brendan Brooks is one of them, and wingers Jay McClement and Jeff Hoggan are the others"

I'm just curious where the ECHL Rivermen players will wind up. There was a PJ Star article not too long ago that said former Cats Trevor Baker and Tyler Rennette were talking about just hanging it up.

Hopefully Don Granato will be behind the bench on opening day in Peoria.

maybe a stupid question, but will the team in peoria (ahl) be the Rivermen also?

Yep

This is actually the third different Peoria Rivermen franchise; there was an International Hockey League franchise, the recently departed ECHL team, and now the AHL team.

as long as they are still under St. Louis Contracts, they play in Peoria.

Does anyone know who else will likely be in Peoria, ie they had a multi-year contract w/ the Blues?

Anyone know what DJ has left for a contract?

I spoke to Scheff at the end of the season and he said he does not have a contract for next year and that he didn't know where he would be.

ok, i am still confused. there will be an AHL Peoria Rivermen and an ECHL Peoria Rivermen. correct? Will they be sharing a website? Because i was on www.rivermen.net and the were talking about the AHL Rivermen (about changing the colours of the uniforms to be more similar to STL).... but on that website was the ECHL rivermen roster (well last years). also, will the uniforms be the same? I know I am asking some questions that may have no currant answers, but i thought i would ask.

lol.... scheff might not want to play hockey, being married and all by the next season

nope, the ECHL team had to fold..

The ECHL Rivermen team is now out of business; the owners had to pay a penalty to the ECHL for folding the franchise (I believe it was several hundred thousand dollars). Supposedly the team was offered to someone who was interested in moving it to Worcester, but the city and the DCU Center are only interested in the American Hockey League at this time.

ahh...... it makes a lot more sense now!

The fact that at least one (and maybe more) people didn't buy that franchise at a reduced price and instead payed full boat for another ECHL team (Atlantic City) indicates to me the Rivermen may not have been the "great deal" they were made out to be.

Actually, the Rivermen were a great deal. They were available for $100,000, but the ECHL was in a protracted, bitter fight with the ownership and trying to force Peoria to stay. So the league issued a deadline to find a buyer -- a 30-day window, which anyone who knows the franchise-selling business understands that's impossible. ECHL did not want Peoria to be sold; it wanted to collect a $500,000 penalty for leaving the league.

Also, Stockton did not pay full boat for Atlantic City.
