Eirc Nickulaus did it again to us. Game winning goal (he had the assist) plus the Empty netter. Arghh.

Cats loose 3-1 (was tehre a holiday or school vacation this week) ... was curious about the 12:15 PM Start.

Some teams schedule a game early in the day and have an educational theme so schools can schedule field trips to the games.

From what I hear they are generally far from successful.

I notice Steve Pleau's pet, Wideman, was a minus-3 again. .. He will probably blame Byrne (who didn't play) and send him to Peoria again .....

I'm just back from Norfolk and there was no holiday down there but there were many school buses but it didn't look like a lot of kids.Yes our friend Eric Nickalus did it again and was the number 1star once again.Got to see his wife Meghan and two kids(Rileigh and Carson). They enjoy Norfolk and are all well.

PH... why do you have to assume that a coach always has to have a "pet"..? you don't seem to point out the fact that MacKenzie got 3 penalties, or that Brooks was minus-2....(I'm not complaining about the forementioned gentlemen, just pointing out other stats of the game.....) do you have something against Widemen?

Walker, thanks for your comments ..You are right on McKenzie with his 3 penalties and he also had 4 penalties a couple of games ago and Providence scored on 2 of them ..He was Pleau's pet last year, IMHO ....I did not see yesterday's game, so really have no idea how Wideman played in the game, but his overall play since around Christmas has deteriorated dramatically, yet he still gets to play approx. 25 minutes/game and his play does not warrant it. Thus, my comment.

His offensive numbers have fallen (despite all the quality time) and his defensive play is sub-par, yet Pleau seems to love him.. Pleau has always had someone, whom he favors, despite their performance... and others that always get the short-end ---Sheff and Byrne are 2 examples ..

I have not liked Wideman's play from the beginning, but I certainly do not know him .... I hope that answers your question....

I'm a big Dennis Wideman fan and "I Agree" his game has really dropped off after Christmas. He his trying to do to much. He needs to keep things simply. McKenzie seems to be falling into the same mode as Wideman with his game. If I were the coach during the Providence Game, I would have benched for his play . Trevor Byrne on the other hand is playing much better since being back. What he needs to work on is trying not to cheat on defense. He tends to get burned (no plun intended).. The guy I have been impressed with lately is Brimanis. He has really picked up his game. When Walker gets into full game shape this should help the defense.

P_H, you didn't like him from the beginning, how come?

I would take at defensemen who has 2 goals and 6 assists, who is also a plus-5, in his first 7 professional games anyday.

Icecat110,

Re your quote: I would take at defensemen who has 2 goals and 6 assists, who is also a plus-5, in his first 7 professional games anyday.  I absolutely agree! ... I was at the exhibition game in Marlboro and thought he was OK, but nothing special ...I was also at the 2nd game of the year against Springfield when he had 2 gls and 3 assts for 5 points. Obviously, a great game, but 5 of the 8 points you mention were in that 1 game ..... From that point he was the "go-to" guy and did have a successful 1st-half season and was around a "plus 10" or so around Christmas. Sorry, I did not warm up to him even at that point and stated so on this forum. Just my opinion..

Since then he has NOT played well and his numbers have dropped dramatically, and he still plays most of the entire PP which is the 2nd worst in the entire league....

I guess we can all have opinions of players, some good and some not-so-good ....I just do not care for his style.

I agree that his play as of late hasn't been all that great, but lets hope he has a good period of play before they start the playoffs, and hopefully carry this team.

I see the name Scheff mentioned. I don't know how he could get in Pleau's or anybody else could get a read on the big guy. He never frickin' plays. How many games 27 in 3 years. I think he is in the wrong sport.

JMHO

PH,

I'm not sure why Wideman would be called Pleau's pet. He may get a lot of ice time which may lead to you calling him Pleau's pet. I may not be at all the games but I still do check the stats and I'm not liking what i see of his +/- numbers either. However, for our defensemen he is the best in the offensive zone, good at the point on the powerplay, and plus he is a right hand shot (a good majority of defenseman are leftys, or so I read awhile ago). Those are reasons why I think he's played a lot.

Wideman kind of reminds of Jame Pollock in that he's our offensive defensmen. He's a good passer and has a good shot (maybe not as hard as Jame's) but his accuracy on both the pass and shot have landed him as one of our leading scorers as well as league defenseman and rookies.

His plus/minus numbers may not be going good but overall he's a good asset to the team, with his offensive input (tied for second on the team in assists) but there are also four other skaters on the ice with him and while i agree that defensemen should be pressed by their coach on defensive lapses, I would hope that his partner if he has a regular one or two would be included in the critique of plus/minus.
